Font - Recently I stayed at an Airbnb. Around 10pm the day we checked it I noticed the hot water wasnt working. I reached out to the host, who was responsive and said maintenance would be there 8am the next morning, which they were.

Font - Pretty annoying, but at least it'll be fixed promptly. Well after a long 10 hour day of hiking and getting really dirty I was ready for a nice shower. Surprise surprise, when I get back the hot water still isnt working.

Font - Everything else about the place was amazing and luxurious, and the host was really responsive, so I thought I'd give him a chance to work things out without involving Airbnb. I asked for a partial refund since we did not have hot water for our entire 2 night stay. He said

Font - the best he could do is 10% off of a future stay. I told him it should be applied to this stay, and he said they are not able to apply it to this stay. The fact that he said "not able" did not sit well with me. I contacted Airbnb support and within a few hours was granted a 30% refund for the entire trip.

Font - Honestly I would have been okay with a 10% discount. But it makes me feel good knowing that he lost his chance to do 10% and now has to do 30%.

Font - standingonacorner. 22 hr. ago Airbnb is extremely guest oriented. Default judgement always goes to the guest

Font - GreenOnionCrusader +3. 1 day ago Airbnb is totally garbage, generally. Like the poor woman who had an issue with having a camera in the sleeping area that just wanted a refund. It took them what, 10 months and arbitration to give it back to her?

Font - Kidkrid 22 hr. ago Airbnbs are often riddled with cameras. Apparently, people pay good money to watch others.

Font - Sev3n 19 hr. ago Hot water is a requirement for a living situation to be 'habitable'. If a landlord cannot provide a habitable environment, the contract is null and void. Request a 100% refund from AirBnB. F the system.

Font - midcen-mod1018 The Airbnb hosts sub frequently pops up on my feed and every time I read their ridiculousness when 1 day ago someone requests something reasonable, provides feedback, gets a refund, etc, I applaud the renter for sticking it to the rich.

Font - FunkyPete 17 hr. ago . Lots of rich people with extra homes help pay for their vacation home by renting it out when they're not staying in it. Do you think poor people are buying homes in vacation destinations and renting them out?

Font - ifyoudontknowlearn. 13 hr. ago LOL I had an issue with a booking. I made a mistake with the dates. The host said too bad can't change it. I checked the cancellation policy and found I was in the window. 5 min with support canceled with a full refund. We stayed somewhere else. :-)

Font - standingonacorner 22 hr. ago. edited 22 hr. ago Airbnb superhost here, vacation rental owner since 2005. Reading the title annoyed me, and I was prepared for another entitled guest complaining about nothing

Font - But after reading this, yeah you have Every right to be upset and I would have given you 50% off as soon as I knew you didn't have hot water the whole stay That Airbnb owner is an idiot. I hope you left him a bad review

Organism - BlueJohn2113 OP 22 hr. ago The more comments I read the more I realize how insane his offer of "10% off a future stay" was.
  • 19
Font - I left him a medium review. Since, like I mentioned, everything else was great. I did mention how there was no hot water for the entire trip in the review though.

Rectangle - JDBall55 8 hr. ago Depending where you stayed I think that you could have got 100% back. In many places Hot water is a legal requirement and landlords must provide it.

Rectangle - BlueJohn2113 OP. 19 hr. ago Probably just from other airbnb hosts that dont think hot water is a basic amenity that needs to be fulfilled or at least deserve a refund.
  • 22
Font - BlueJohn2113 OP. 9 hr. ago Yeah exactly. That's what made his original offer of 10% off a future stay seem so ridiculous. Like... you want me to come back to a place where I didnt even have hot water?
  • 23
Font - Only way I'd stay there again is if I get it in writing that if for any amount of time the hot water isnt working then I get a 100% refund for the entire trip. If the host wouldnt agree to that then I know he's not confident that the issue with his water heater is fixed.
